A guide to borrowing items from Lemieux Library, Summit and InterLibrary Loan

Requesting Materials

What can be requested via a Local Hold?

You can place a hold on items that are currently available at the Seattle University Libraries. You can request items from both the Lemieux and Law Libraries, and chose which library you would like to pick them up from. Our staff we retrieve the items from the stacks, and you will receive an email when they are on the hold shelf and ready to be picked up. 

What can be requested via Summit?

Summit will help you obtain research materials that are not currently available at the Seattle University Libraries (either we do not own the material, or it is currently checked out and unavailable) but that are owned by another Orbis Cascade Library. You will be able to see if materials are available in Summit by clicking on the "Summit Holdings" tab in the item record.

What can be requested via Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

Interlibrary Loan will help you obtain research materials not available at the Seattle University Libraries nor in the Summit catalog. Interlibrary Loan cannot be used as a substitute for buying textbooks or other course required materials.

Hold Shelf Policy

A hold placed on a Lemieux Library item that is available in our stacks indicates that, whenever possible, library staff will pull the available item and set it aside for user who requested it to pick up. A hold on an available item does not always guarantee your spot as next in line; if another user finds the item on the shelf before it is pulled by library staff, the priority shifts to the patron who is physically present unless otherwise arranged by the Circulation Manager.

Once processed, material will remain on the hold shelf for you to pick up for either three or seven days, depending on the material type and loan period, before it is made available again for general circulation.

A hold on an item that is currently checked out is a request to be notified when a lent Lemieux Library item has been returned. In addition, it places you next in line to borrow the material. A hold does not change the original due date, but it does prevent the current borrower from renewing it.

You should receive an email notice in your SU email account when items are ready.  Log in to your SU library account to see the status of requested items.

Pick up held items at the Circulation Desk. Be prepared to present library staff with either your SU campus card or valid picture ID (driver's license or passport).

You can cancel holds through your SU library account, or contact Circulation Staff at libcirc@seattleu.edu

Local Holds

To request items from the Lemieux Library collection:

1. Search or browse Primo.

 

2. When you find a book or video you want, click on "Find and Request". You will need to log in to your SU library account to complete the request.

 

3. Library staff will retrieve the items you request. You will receive an email when your items are ready to be picked up at the library's circulation desk. Present library staff with either your SU campus card or valid picture ID (driver's license or passport) in order to check out the item.
