How to Find and Use eBooks

Purpose of this guide is to provide information and instructions on the Lemieux Library's eBook collection.

How can I read ebooks on a mobile device?

 

In General:

1. Download Adobe Digital Editions to your computer

2. Download eBook to your computer

3. Authorize Adobe ID after installation of Adobe Digital Editions. This enables you to transfer items between computers and devices.

4. Download compatible reader app: Bluefire, Aldiko

5. Sync computer with device.

5. Transfer eBook from computer to device

Kindle Fire/Kindle

 

Kindle Fire:  Since Adobe Digital Editions is not supported on Kindles, you will not be able to download EBL, ebrary or EBSCO titles unless you have a Kindle Fire.

EBL and Ebsco can download eBooks only to the Kindle Fire, using the Bluefire Reader app.

Ebrary- enable Kindle Fire to install Aldiko Book Reader. On your computer, install Adobe Digital Editon, download book and then transfer to with the installed Aldiko book reader

iPhone; iPad;

EBL & Ebscohost: 1. Checkout/download EBL eBooks through Adobe Digital Editions, then transfer eBook to device.

2. Use Bluefire Reader App to transfer the eBook to an iPad/iPhone  .

Ebrary:   1. Checkout/download ebrary eBooks through Adobe Digital  Editions, than transfer the eBook to device.

 2. Users transfer ebooks via  BlueFire.  

Android:

Sony and Nook

 

 

 EBL & Ebscohost :  1. Checkout/download EBL eBooks through Adobe Digital Editions, then transfer the eBook to device.

2. Patrons using an Android  transfer the eBook to their device via  the Bluefire Reader App

Ebrary:  1. Checkout/download ebrary eBooks through Adobe Digital  Editions, then transfer the eBook to device.

 2. Users transfer ebooks via Bluefire app

What Software do I need to read an eBook?

Adobe Digital Editions.

Download free software for online and offline reading on your PC or Mac computer or device. Reads ePub format, including DRM ePubs:

  1. Install Adobe Digital Editions, Go to http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/ ; click 'download now' ( top right-hand side of screen) to your computer..
  2. Click 'launch' to start  Adobe Digital Editions installer.
  3. Follow Setup Assistant wizard prompts, and create a free Adobe ID account .
  4. Use your  email address & create a password to login to Adobe Digital Editions (via the wizard or the member login page).
  5. 'Activate' .
  6. Click 'finish' (closes the wizard).  You can also close Adobe Digital Editions 'library' which has opened, as you only need this software to be loaded on your computer to download ebooks
Schubertit.  PDF browser plug in for MAC computers for Firefox and Safari. Allows browsing of Ebscohost books.

Bluefire 

Bluefire Reader is a free ereader app for PDF and EPUB content. Can be used by iPad and iPhone users to download titles from EBL, Ebscohost

Calibre

You can use this to convert PDF documents to EPUBS

Aldiko

 Aldiko Reader app can be used to download ebrary books with the Kindle Fire
