Summit Borrowing

General Information:

The Seattle University libraries are members of the Orbis Cascade Alliance, a consortium of academic libraries in the Pacific Northwest. This grants SU students, faculty, and staff access to patron-initiated borrowing of materials via the Summit catalog,which contains the holdings of all Orbis Cascade Alliance members - over 28 million items.

What is Summit Borrowing? Who is eligible to use Summit Borrowing?

Summit borrowing is a Web-based service that allows current SU students, faculty and staff to request materials from other Orbis Cascade Alliance libraries by using the Primo. The service is fast, easy to use and accessible at any time from the Library or your home or office.

How long can I check out Summit items?

Summit books are loaned for six weeks or the end of the current term, whichever comes first. Media is loaned for six days or the end of the current term, whichever comes first.

Can I renew Summit Borrowing materials?

Summit items cannot be renewed.  You can see what items are currently checked out to you by logging into your library account.

Where can I pick up or return Summit Borrowing materials?

When placing a request, you can choose to have your Summit item delivered to the Lemieux Library or the Law Library. Materials will be delivered for you to pick up at the circulation desk at the location you select, usually within 5 - 7 business days. You may return Summit materials to the circulation desk or drop box of the library you checked out the item from.

Are there any late fees for overdue Summit Borrowing materials?

Late fees are 50 cents per item per day for the first ten days. After that, fees become $1.00 per item per day. The charge for a lost item is $75 plus a $15 processing fee for a total of $90 per item. In some cases lost Summit books may be replaced, pending approval from the owning library.

Borrowing from Summit

Summit borrowing is a Web-based service that allows current SU students, faculty and staff to request materials from other Orbis Cascade Alliance libraries by using the Primo. The service is fast, easy to use and accessible at any time from the Library or your home or office. Summit books are loaned for six weeks or the end of the current term, whichever comes first. Media is loaned for six days or the end of the current term, whichever comes first. Summit items can accrue overdue fines.

To request items from Summit

1. Search or browse Primo.

2.When you find what you want, click the "Request a Copy" link. You will need to sign in to view more options.

 

3. After sign-in, click on the "Summit" tab to see if the item is available at another library.

4. Click on the "Find and Request" tab, then click on the "Place Summit Request" link. 

Please only click on the link ONCE (even if you do not receive a confirmation), then check your library account to make sure that the request was successful. Clicking the link multiple times may place multiple requests.

5. You will receive an e-mail when your items are available to pick up at the library's circulation desk. Present library staff with either your SU campus card or valid picture ID (driver's license or passport) in order to check out items at the desk.
