Citation Manager Workshop

by Lydia Bello on 2021-10-26T17:13:00-07:00 | Comments

Citation managers are tools that you can use to store, organize, and create citations. Research Services supports two citation managers, Zotero and RefWorks. Both tools will help you keep your sources organized, and you can use them to create both in text citations and bibliographies!

Zotero  is a free and open source tool that you can use to collect, manage, and cite resource sources. Zotero allows you to attach PDFs, notes and images to your citations, organize them into collections for different projects, insert citations into Word documents, and create bibliographies. Zotero stores your citations and files on your computer.

RefWorks is a web-based citation manager and bibliography builder. You can annotate, organize, and cite your research as well as collaborate with friends and colleagues by sharing collections. Seattle University maintains institutional accounts for anyone at Seattle University, so you will need to register for and access RefWorks through the Library.

If you are interested in either tool, you can check out the Library's Zotero and RefWorks guides, or come to the upcoming Learning Strategy Workshop about getting started with citation managers! This workshop will focus on the basics of citation managers, the similarities and differences between the two specific tools, and the basics for getting started on each. You can learn more about the Learning Strategy Workshop Series here.
