Borrowing

A guide to borrowing items from Lemieux Library, Summit and InterLibrary Loan

Borrowing Policy

Welcome to the Lemieux Library and McGoldrick Learning Commons Borrowing Polices Pages. Please see the links on the left side of this page to find access and usage policies for different types of users of the Lemieux Library and McGoldrick Learning Commons.

The Lemieux Library and McGoldrick Learning Commons’ primary mission is to provide library services and access to physical and electronic library resources to faculty, staff, and students of Seattle University. In alignment with the mission of Seattle University, and in the spirit of being a good community partner, Lemieux Library and McGoldrick Learning Commons allows limited access to other groups such as Seattle University and law school alumni, sister lending institutions that are part of the Orbis Cascade Alliance , members of the Jesuit passport program, and sponsored university and community guests.

All visitors to the Lemieux Library and McGoldrick Learning Commons must abide by our Access to the Library and Expectations of Library Users policies, and may make use of our facility in the manner outlined in those documents.

As a patron of the Lemieux Library, you are responsible for:

  1. All materials checked out on your account.
  2. Knowing the due dates of the materials you have borrowed.
  3. Returning or renewing items on time.
  4. Checking your Seattle University email account for notices from the library.
  5. Payment of all charges for lost or damaged materials.

Questions?

For general inquiries, contact the Lemieux Library Circulation Desk at 206-296-6233 or email libcirc@seattleu.edu

Requesting Items

You can place holds on items that are currently available at the Seattle University Libraries. You can request items from both the Lemieux and Law Libraries, and choose which library you would like to pick them up from. You will receive an email when your items are ready to be picked up.

How long will you hold my item?

Once your hold request is processed, materials will remain on the shelf for six business days.

What happens if I place a hold for an item currently checked out?

If you place a hold for an item currently checked out, you will be placed next in line to borrow the item. A hold request does not change the original due date, but it does prevent the current borrower from renewing it.

  • A hold does not always guarantee that your item will be reserved; if another patron finds the item before it is pulled by library staff, priority will be given to that patron unless otherwise arranged by the Circulation Manager.

For items not currently available at the Seattle University Libraries, please see the Borrowing from Summit and Borrowing from Interlibrary Loan sections for further instructions.

Renewing Items

Seattle University students, faculty, and staff may renew books, media, and journals online, by phone, or in person at the Circulation Desk.

  • To renew items online, log in to your SU Primo library account. Your login is the same username and password as your SU email.
  • To renew items in-person at the Circulation Desk, be sure to present your SU campus card or valid picture identification (driver's license or passport).
