Arts Innovation in Seattle

Guide to Academic Databases

Academic Databases are another good place to look for primary and background sources. While they may have a broader subject area, you may find trade publications, academic articles, reviews, and news media (print, video, and audio) that can support your research.

There are several things to consider when conducting research in newspaper and article databases. Think about the date ranges you may want to narrow your search to. Are you looking for newspaper articles published at the time, or current writing or reporting about past events. Also remember the scope of your search. Be sure to think about who has published the source. Is it a local neighborhood newspaper who has published a review of a performance, or a Seattle Times article talking about an arts organization? Think about the renown the source publisher may hold in an arts community and what impact their writing may have or may still have.
